Nashville, TN — Following the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote today recommending Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the full Senate, Bill Hagerty, Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, released the following statement:

“Senate Republicans, like Tennessee’s own Judiciary Committee member, Senator Marsha Blackburn, are continuing to stand for the balance of powers in our Constitution as they advance the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett is a constitutionalist judge. She will interpret our laws as written, not position herself as a Super-Legislator who creates new laws based on whim or partisan perspective,” said Bill Hagerty. “Judge Barrett is eminently qualified to be a Supreme Court justice, and she will serve our nation with dignity as she reinforces the rule of law. By boycotting the vote today, we saw yet another destructive stunt by the  Democrats in their desperate attempt to block or delay her confirmation. I trust the Senate will fulfill its constitutional duty and swiftly confirm Judge Barrett.”

Bill Hagerty is the Republican nominee for Senate in Tennessee. Hagerty earned President Trump’s “complete and total” endorsement on multiple occasions to be Tennessee’s next United States Senator after serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
