U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty is a proven conservative fighter, successful businessman, and former U.S. Ambassador who is delivering results for Tennessee. Elected to the Senate in 2020, Hagerty has quickly become one of the most influential voices in Washington on economic freedom, national security, border security, and American strength on the world stage.

Hagerty serves on four powerful committees — the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the Senate Committee on Appropriations, and the Senate Committee on Rules & Administration — where he is leading the charge to rein in Washington overreach and promote President Trump’s America First agenda.

A lifelong businessman, Hagerty wrote the GENIUS Act, a major conservative initiative to restore American leadership in next-generation technologies, strengthen domestic capital formation, and counter the growing threat from Communist China. The GENIUS Act has become a centerpiece of the national debate on economic competitiveness, earning Hagerty recognition as one of the Senate’s strongest advocates for free-market innovation and American technological dominance.

In 2025, Senator Hagerty earned the full endorsement of President Donald J. Trump, who praised Hagerty’s unwavering conservative record, his leadership on national security, and his relentless commitment to securing the border, defending American sovereignty, and standing up to China. Hagerty was one of Trump’s earliest and strongest supporters in 2016, served as Trump’s Tennessee Victory Chair, and later played a senior role on the Trump transition team.

Before joining the Senate, Hagerty served as the United States Ambassador to Japan, one of America’s most critical allies. As Ambassador, he strengthened the U.S.–Japan alliance, advanced President Trump’s Indo-Pacific strategy, and helped secure the U.S.–Japan trade agreement that opened new markets for American farmers and manufacturers. Under his leadership, Japan invested more capital and created more American jobs than any other nation in the world.

Hagerty worked tirelessly to counter the threats posed by Communist China, North Korea, and Russia, reinforcing America’s military posture in the Indo-Pacific and ensuring that American interests always came first.

Hagerty began his career at the Boston Consulting Group, working across five continents, including three years in Tokyo. He later became a venture capital and private equity investor, helping grow companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

From 2011 to 2014, Hagerty served as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, where he cut government waste, eliminated unnecessary bureaucracy, and helped Tennessee achieve record-setting job growth. Under his leadership, Tennessee became the #1 state in America for jobs created through direct foreign investment and earned back-to-back “State of the Year for Economic Development” awards.

Born in Gallatin and raised in a working-class family, Hagerty learned the value of hard work early. His mother was a schoolteacher, and his father — a veteran — worked road construction. Hagerty baled hay, raised livestock, and shoveled asphalt alongside his father. Those experiences shaped his commitment to faith, family, freedom, and the dignity of work.

An Eagle Scout and lifelong Tennessean, Hagerty lives in Davidson County with his wife, Chrissy. They are active in community and civic organizations and are the proud parents of four children.
