Born in Gallatin, Bill learned the value of hard work from an early age. His parents raised him with strong conservative Tennessee values. Bill’s mother was a career school teacher, and his father, a veteran, worked road construction. As a boy, he raised pigs and cattle, baled hay, and later worked road construction like his father, mostly shoveling asphalt.
Though Bill’s father did not graduate college, he worked hard so that Bill could do so. Bill worked summers and part-time during the school year to earn his degree. With a strong academic foundation, Bill started a successful business career. But nothing was more important to Bill than to build his own family.
God smiled on Bill as He brought Chrissy into his life. Bill and Chrissy married, and eventually, they lived in the home his grandfather built in Sumner County until their second child was born. At that point, they moved into Davidson County, and today are the proud parents of four children.
Raising his family, Bill knew that he wanted to give back to his community and the state that he loves so dearly. From 2011 to 2014, Bill took leave from the private sector and served as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Tennessee’s unemployment rate went from being above the national average when he assumed his duties in 2011 to one of the best-performing state economies in the nation.
However, Bill wanted to do more for our rural communities, and much-needed change had to come from the federal level. That’s why Bill strongly supported Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election cycle. During the presidential campaign, Bill volunteered full-time as Donald Trump’s Tennessee Victory Chair, where Donald Trump won 92 Tennessee counties. After Donald Trump resoundingly won the presidency, Bill served as a senior leader of the Trump transition team. Bill quickly earned the President’s seal of approval and was tapped to serve as the United States Ambassador to Japan, the third-largest economy in the world and one of America’s strongest allies.
In his role as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Bill worked tirelessly to protect American lives from aggressive Communist regimes in China, North Korea, and Russia. In the Trump Administration, Japan became America’s most strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region. The United States has more military stationed in Japan than any other nation outside America. As the President’s representative and the Senior American in that Nation, Bill worked extensively to strengthen our military and strategic posture in this critical region. As U.S. Ambassador, Bill worked steadfastly to help President Trump secure the recent U.S.-Japan trade deal. With this deal now in effect, Japan will lower and remove tariffs on American agricultural exports, which will give a significant boost to Tennessee farmers and ranchers selling into this major market. Bill also worked tirelessly to encourage Japanese companies to invest in America. During his tenure, Japan has committed more capital and created more new jobs in the United States than any other nation in the world.
Bill is working to strengthen our economy, bring more jobs to our communities, hold China accountable, stop illegal immigration, defend our Second Amendment rights, defend our First Amendment rights from big tech companies, protect the unborn, help build the wall and stand for our law enforcement officers, our military, and our veterans.
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election to the United States Senate. It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve the men and women of Tennessee, and I am committed to the fight for our shared values, our freedoms, and the future of our great state and nation.
As a businessman, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, and now your Senator, I have always put Tennessee first. During President Donald J. Trump's first term, I was honored to serve in his Administration and witness firsthand the impact of his America First agenda. His leadership delivered record-low unemployment, stronger borders, and a booming economy—results that benefited Tennesseans and Americans alike. I stood with President Trump then, and I remain committed now to advancing the policies that put hardworking Americans and Tennesseans first.
In the Senate, I have worked tirelessly to protect Tennessee's conservative values and deliver results for our state. My lifelong business experience, which gave me firsthand exposure to the crippling overreach of the administrative state, provides unique perspective to the critical debates and lawmaking that takes place in the Senate. I’ve fought to secure our southern border, support our small businesses, strengthen our national security, and ensure Tennessee’s voice is heard in Washington.
There is more work to be done. Our nation faces an unprecedented set of challenges from lingering inflation, threats from adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party, and efforts to undermine the values that make America the most exceptional nation in the history of the world.
Tennessee needs a strong, conservative voice in the Senate—one that fights for lower taxes, energy independence, secure borders, and the rule of law. I am running for re-election to continue delivering on these priorities and to ensure that President Trump’s America First agenda succeeds in his second term and beyond.
Together, we can build on the progress we’ve made and keep Tennessee and America great. I humbly ask for your support, your prayers, and your vote in the upcoming election. Please join me in this fight for the future our children and grandchildren deserve—a future where the Volunteer State and our great nation remain strong, prosperous, and free.
