Bill Hagerty is known for serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan in recent years. He’s now making headlines for throwing his hat in the race for Tennessee’s seat in the U.S. Senate being vacated by Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander.

What’s not as well known is that Hagerty’s parents met in Clarksville, where his mom – at the young age of 20 – then worked as a high school teacher at Clarksville High School while his dad took classes at Austin Peay State University.

It was that piece of personal history Hagerty used to open his address to the group of local leaders, business and academic professionals gathered Thursday for APSU’s second Industry Summit.
